Research Interests

Here you will find (some of) the things I’m actually working on:

Debunking Arguments
I’m investigating how the discussion on naturalistic theories of content bear on debunking arguments of morality.

Natural Selection, Function and Representations
I’m working on a particular way of understanding these notions and their relathionship that might help overcome traditional problems.

Representations
I’m trying to figure out what are the minimal conditions for a state to qualify as a representation. The idea I would like to defend is that representations have a very special causal role.

Bacterial communication
I would like to assess whether we should take at face the idea that microorganisms produce signals and how that claim fits with extant naturalistic theories of representation.

A Teleosemantic Theory of Cognitive Content
I’m developing a teleological theory of cognitive content, with some of the tools provided by Evolutionary Game Theory.

Teleosemantics and Indeterminacy
I’m currently working on a solution to this difficult problem.

Informational Theories
I’m interested in assessing to what extent informational theories can help to solve the problem of intentionality

Secession
I’m working on the theories on political secession. I argue that remedial-right only theories are too restrictive and that there are good reasons for a more permissive account.

Nations
I’m trying to defend a realist position on the nature of nations.

Bio

In 2002, I began a BA in Philosophy at the Universitat de Barcelona. I took me five years to complete it.

UB

During the last year of my BA, I was a vitising student at the Technische Universität Berlin (Germany).

TUB

When I came back to Barcelona, I started a Master’s Degree on  Cognitive Science and Language and began to work at the LOGOS-Logic, Language and Cognition Research Group.

After completing the Master’s Degree, I began my PhD in Philosophy at the Universitat de Girona. Since then, my research has focused on several topics within the philosophy of mind, philosophy and biology, philosophy of science and cognitive science.

Girona

During these years of research, I’ve been a visiting scholar at different universities abroad. In particular, I spent some months at the University of Connecticut, where I worked with Ruth Millikan,

ruth2

I also spent some time at the Australian National University working with Kim Sterelny,

Kimbo

And I was also a visiting researcher at King’s College London, where I worked with David Papineau.

Papineau

I had my viva on september 16th 2013. In my dissertation, I defend a teleological theory of intentional content and I use it in order to naturalize the representational content of perceptual states and concepts.

In 2014 I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Instituto de Investigaciones Filosóficas (UNAM-Mexico).

unam_central_library

During the first half of 2015 I was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität under the supervision of Stephan Hartmann.

Fountains of LMU

At the end of 2015 I started my third postdoctoral scholarship at the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Manuel Garcia-Carpintero.

ubfgh

In 2016 I became lecturer at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Valencia.

You can get a better grasp of the things I am working on by consulting my publications, talks and research interests.
